Minas Tirith : The Wong Way
I saw Dribbble user Michael Wong's series, "Fantastic Architecture" and I was immediately drawn to his style and approach. It seemed purposefully simple and I was excited to try my hand at something similar. I quickly found how difficult this style actually is, so Michael Wong, if you ever read this; mad props my dude. How do you boil down something as intricate as architecture and present it in it's entirety with just simple shapes and color?
Wong does this superbly throughout his series. So, as I attempted to render Minas Tirith in like style, I had to keep reminding myself to keep it simple. It's crazy how easy it is to get bogged down on the details. I tried to keep an steady pace, and even gave myself a deadline (which is pretty hard to stick to when you aren't relying on a boss or client to keep you accountable). Being my first stab at this, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. I'm currently working on Meduseld (you know, the Golden Hall of Rohan's Capital city, Edoras) and feel a little more equipped than I did at the start. I'm looking forward to continuing in this vein for a while. Tryin' to bone up on my stats, jafeel?
